On Thursday, May 6,
2010, the staff of the Mountainside Public Library
wore red to protest the proposed cuts to the NJ State
Library.

MadJazz at
the MPL |

|
The reading area of
the library's main room was transformed into a concert hall
on Monday, April 26, when the vocal group MadJazz
performed "Frostiana" in celebration of National Poetry
Month. "Frostiana," by American composer Randall
Thompson, sets 7 of Robert Frost's poems to music. The
performance also included poetry readings.

About 50 people came out to "meet the
author" and pick up signed copies of her new book on the
history of the borough.

Harpist Odarka
Stockert performed a beautiful program of Celtic music
on her harp on Friday, March 12th, in honor of St. Patrick's
Day.
The performance was enjoyed by over 30 people.

Story Time
Theatre for Kindergarteners |

Story Time Theatre,
presented by Ms. Jan Elby, gives children the chance to
learn and then
act out their favorite stories in costume. Each
session concludes with a performance for parents.
Story Time Theatre is sponsored by the Friends of the
Mountainside Library.

Book Swap

The Book Swap, held
periodically throughout the year, gives children a chance
to trade in books they no longer read and swap for books on
their
current reading level. It's a lot of fun and a great
way to recycle.

Folk Music
Cafe

The Folk Music Cafe is
held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. In January, we
hosted Joseph Strider and
Friends and 40 people attended. The Folk Music
Cafe is one of our most popular programs, featuring live
music, fresh coffee and delicious desserts. We hope
you join us at our next event!

Watts-Mountainside Community Foundation.

"building a house." Here, after reading a story about
houses, the children
get creative and build their own houses using cardboard,
markers and their own imagination.
Story times are held in four different age groups throughout
the year.
